To date, 20 people have signed up for the Banned Book Challenge with the goal of reading 174 books.
Of interest is a course which is giving extra points to students who take the challenge.
There is still time to sign up. The challenge goes until June 30. Set your own goal and let us know about it. I will publish any reviews, etc. as they are sent to me.

No book has been banned in the USA for about half a century. So, my banned book challenge would be to:
1) find a book banned in the USA in the past half century,
2) compare and contrast the USA situation from question 1 with books banned in Cuba in the past half century, then
3) describe the quantitative and qualitative differences between the claims of censorship in the USA and the actual censorship in Cuba, finally,
4) explain why people who keep inappropriate material from children are labeled as censors.
In your analysis, be sure to include United States v. American Library Association, particularly this quote:
"The interest in protecting young library users from material inappropriate for minors is legitimate, and even compelling, as all Members of the Court appear to agree."
