According to Oregon News, a complaint from a parent has led to the temporary removal of "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian," by Sherman Alexie from schools in Crook County School District. A parent complained that the book was "trashy" and "inappropriate." "I don't think it should be for anybody," he said. "I think it's trash. I don't think a 50-year-old ought to read it." Hank Moss seemed to be concerned about a reference to masturbation but Jeff Landaker, chairman of the Crook County school board, was more concerned about the "graphic language and the graphic pictures."
"The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" is the winner of a National Book Award.
